Why I still sketch on paper first

Thomas Brandon

Product designer and founder

Every project I work on starts in a cheap notebook. Not because paper is romantic, but because it is fast and forgiving.

Ideas before pixels

On paper I can draw ten bad ideas in ten minutes. On screen I polish the first one for an hour. The bad ideas are where the good one hides.

From paper to wireframe to prototype, usually within the same week.

Then move fast

Once a sketch survives a night of sleep, it goes straight into a clickable prototype.

Paper for thinking, screens for testing.
